I have several years of experience with work that ranges from graphic design and photography, to illustration, iconography and packaging design.

For the majority of those years, I have been involved with creative problem solving – working with both technical and concept artists to bring an idea to life.

I’ve worked with a range of clients that swing from ultra conservative to completely off the wall, and the challenge of each type of client is invigorating and fun.

This image shows the Amway Artistry Parisian edition products that involved technical packaging design, illustration, color theory and approval, and many meetings with Brand teams across the globe.

The speed of design has increased exponentially, and the many teams I have worked with have had to figure out how to serve global clients quickly with sketching, templates, family charts, creative decks, and brand guides that speed up the iterative process.

Perfection is not the key so much anymore – but an idea that resonates with people on a deep and meaningful level.

Below link shows the many Amway Packaging campaigns I was involved with, ranging across Business lines and project groups.

Educational Background AND RESUME

After completing my BFA in Visual Communications at Kendall College of Art and Design, I went on to work in Packaging Design at Perrigo in Allegan, MI, then moved on to work as a large format designer and technician at Skyline Displays International in Burnsville, MN.

After I returned home to Michigan, I started work as an Imaging Specialist at Amway, working my way through various degrees of creative positions.

All the while, I worked at learning more about design and design theories, and it became clear that art, mathematics, industrial design, color, and photography were easily interchangeable to me.

One day I would like to obtain either an MFA in Advertising Design & Theory, or a Minor in Industrial Design.

TECHNICAL PACKAGING DESIGN

Some of the biggest challenges in packaging design is what the purpose is, the message, the audience.

In 2015, I began submitting an End of Year portfolio at review time to showcase the various Amway Packaging projects I’d worked on.

In each example, I credit the fact these are Amway product designs and teams I worked with, and how we evolved an idea.

In some cases, projects and years overlap each other, but what I am trying to show is the high level of team work it takes to create great Packaging.

helping clients achieve an identity

One of the advantages of being in an artistic community is being around creative people all the time. I have the privilege of knowing many Artists with a variety of creative approaches.

I am honored to help them find a message that conveys what it is they are trying to say to the general public.

Types of Services

little books

I have drawn to one degree or another as long as I can remember. Over the years, I have written and illustrated little books for my nieces and nephews.

When I’m drawing or painting, the world disappears, and all I can see or hear is what I am working on.

past projects

Since I have been in the business of delivering images and messaging for a long time, I have a few pieces from years gone past that I love because of the boldness of the pictures.

I think these pieces show the ability to jump around, try different approaches, and use various mediums.

VIDEO AND SOUND projects

In 2016 my brother Dale started a recording project called “The Musician’s Axe”. He wanted to interview and record as many musicians as he could to preserve their talent and unique views on music.

The first recording featured is of Michael Hall, a local musician active in the greater West Michigan area for well over 40 years, and one of the most talented guitarists, singers, and song writers I have ever known.

He was also my friend and partner for many years, and sadly he passed away in 2020 of leukemia. This is a small example of his vast talent.

The second recording features a band Michael had been in since 1986 called The Moonrays. They are a Surf Rock band and in 2017 were the opening band at Frederick Meijer Gardens.

The sound and video were recorded by my brother with my photographs interlaced in between. We had full stage access to them and were able to capture an extremely historic moment in all our lives. It is a day I will never forget, and feel honored I was a part of it.
